WHAT IS THIS YEAR'S BEST THEOLOGY BOOK?
COULD YOU CHOOSE?

COMPETITION NOW CLOSED - WINNER TO BE ANNOUNCED IN JUNE

Archbishop Rowan Williams wants to find a member of the public to join his panel of judges and help select a winning book for the Michael Ramsey Prize 2009.

The Michael Ramsey Prize for 2009 will be awarded to the author of a good and lucid theological work that is judged to contribute most towards advancing theology and making a serious contribution to the faith and life of the church. The Prize of £15,000, contributed by the Lambeth Partners, will be presented at the Hay-on-Wye literary Festival in May 2009.

The job of a judge will be to select, from a shortlist, the title which, in the opinion of the panel, best meets the competition criteria. There will be six judges, including the Archbishop of Canterbury, Jane Williams and Fr Timothy Radcliffe, winner of the 2007 Michael Ramsey Prize.

The judges will make their final selection from the shortlist over afternoon tea, followed by dinner. The award ceremony - at which all the shortlisted authors will be present and the prizewinner will be announced - will take place the following day at the Hay Festival. The ceremony will be followed by a gala lunch.

Judges, who will be practising Christians, will need to be available to read a maximum of six nominated books between December 2008 and May 2009, be present at the final selection meeting and award ceremony in May 2009 and be prepared to speak to the audience at the ceremony about one of the books. The post is unremunerated (although reasonable expenses will be covered).

How can I win a place on the judges' panel?

Simply submit your review (max 500 words) of a recent work of theology which has inspired you. Please also include approx 100 words on why you think you would make a valuable addition to the judges' panel.

All entries must be received by 21 April 2008

A group of selected candidates will be invited to an informal meeting at an informal selection process at Lambeth Palace on Monday 9 June 2008 and win £50 worth of SPCK books. One of these finalists will be selected as a Michael Ramsey Prize judge.
